Pick it up, see the story

Lift & Learn is a retail display technology where picking up a product triggers relevant content on a nearby screen. Customers see the features, comparisons and stories the moment their hands are on the item, exactly when they are deciding whether to buy.

The customer is already doing the work - Lift & Learn just rewards it

Customers who pick up a product are signalling intent. They’ve moved from passing interest to active consideration. That’s the moment when extra information actually matters – not when they’re walking past a generic display three metres away. Lift & Learn meets the customer at that exact moment, with content tailored to the product they’re already holding.

The mechanics - simpler than you'd think

1. RFID tag on product

Small passive RFID tag attached to the product or packaging. No batteries, no maintenance. Costs cents per unit.

2. Reader in shelf or display

Reader detects when the product is lifted off its position. Sends a signal to the connected screen’s content engine.

3. Screen plays the right content

Pre-mapped content for that product plays. Returns to the attract loop after the customer puts the product back.

Where Lift & Learn earns the investment

Beauty & cosmetics

Customer lifts a foundation. Screen shows shade match, ingredients, application demo, reviews. The kind of detail that drives confident purchase – without staff intervention.

Lift a phone, headphones or laptop. Screen shows specs, comparisons with adjacent models, what’s in the box. Detail that printed shelf-edge labels can’t carry.

Lift a running shoe. Screen shows gait support type, terrain match, sizing guide, technical features. The information staff would normally explain – available the moment the customer wants it.

Lift a model or kit. Screen shows the finished product, build steps, age recommendation, related sets. Particularly powerful for products where the box doesn’t tell the full story.

Lift a bottle. Screen shows tasting notes, food pairings, region, producer story. Premium products earn the customer’s attention – Lift & Learn rewards it.

Lift a bag or watch. Screen shows craftsmanship details, materials, sizing on body, care guide. Justifies premium pricing through context.

The hardware is simple. The content is the project.

Lift & Learn projects don’t fail because the RFID stops working – they fail because no one’s responsible for keeping the content fresh as products rotate. We help with the workflow upfront: what content lives per product, who creates it, who approves it, what happens when a product gets discontinued or replaced. The hardware is a one-time install. Content is a continuous operation.

From first conversation to operations

A Lift & Learn pilot – design, content production, install – typically takes 6–12 weeks. The longer end is usually content creation, not hardware.

When a single screen earned 48%

A global toy retailer added a ‘behind the product’ screen to a single product display – showing the toy in play instead of just the box. Sales of that one product rose by 48%.

No price change. No new packaging. No staff retraining. Just better in-store storytelling, triggered by the customer’s natural curiosity at exactly the moment they were considering the purchase.

Does interactive discovery pay?

Lift & Learn lifts engagement on featured products the same way screens do – and screens have documented +48% sales lift on a featured product. Test the numbers in the ROI calculator.

Common questions

Does every product need a tag?

No – only the products you want to feature. Most retailers tag 20–50 hero products at first, then expand based on results. Tagging the entire catalogue is rarely the right move.

It’s intuitive – the screen reacts the moment they lift the product. Most customers figure it out within a few seconds without instructions. We design the attract loop to subtly cue the interaction for those who don’t.

The system shows the most recently lifted product, or queues content. We tune behaviour during the pilot based on what actually happens in your store.

Yes – every lift is logged. You see which products attract attention, dwell time, and (with POS integration) conversion rate per lift. Useful for merchandising decisions, not just signage.

High-handling products are usually the best candidates – the lift behaviour already exists, you’re just adding payoff. Low-handling products may need merchandising changes first.
