On Wednesday, July 17, FC Midtjylland opened the doors to their new major venture; The new 500 m2 fan shop on Kaj Zartows Vej in Herning. The new shop with screens, sound and light are important components in the overall ambition to become the largest in the Nordic region, when it comes to both results and fan culture.

We spoke to Head of Merchandise, Christian Mikkelsen, about the process and the final result:
What considerations did you make before choosing the new fan shop?
“We went from having an 80 m2 fan shop to 500 m2, and we agreed that if we were going to make such a massive upgrade, the shop had to be able to do something different and more than just sell shirts and merchandise. It had to be an experience and arouse emotions when walking into the shop. We wanted the shop to also be a kind of museum, where we take fans on a trip down memory lane, with trophies, old film clips, etc. Bestseller is a big part of this setup, and they have a lot of experience with screens – and with LCD Media, so we quickly realized that screens would be an optimal solution. They would be able to support everything we wanted to tell, and give us the flexibility to switch between storytelling, pre-match previews, campaigns, etc. The screens give us the opportunity to create the atmosphere we want leading up to the matches, while on weekdays they can be used for promotions, offers, etc. Sound and lighting have also been an important part of the overall solution, and it has been great to experience how LCD Media’s installers have worked hard with us leading up to the opening. LCD Media has been a valuable partner in the process of what we needed, and has delivered and installed both screens, sound, lighting and networks. It has been a pleasure that we have been able to put it all with one partner.
Now the fan shop is here, and we are super proud of our new store. Our ambition was to have a fan shop on par with some of the big international clubs, and we think we have achieved that to a large extent.
How has the opening of the fan shop gone?
“The first two opening days have exceeded all expectations! We have been blown away, both by the reception and the sales. There is no doubt that we missed out on a lot of sales earlier due to. crowding in the old store. People saw the line to the checkout and gave up. It has been crowded in the first few days here, but there has been room to walk around and be inspired… and served, and that clearly reflects in the sales.
